Dr. Balbir Singh, Punjab’s Minister for Medical Education and Research & Health and Family Welfare, conducted a crucial meeting today. In attendance were CMD Er. Baldev Singh Saran, Director of Medical Education and Research Dr. Avnish Kumar, Medical Superintendent Girish Sahni, and officials from the PWD Electrical Wing. The focus of the meeting was to ensure an uninterrupted power supply for Rajindra Hospital. Dr. Singh emphasized the critical importance of maintaining power to support the hospital’s life-saving devices, stressing that all arrangements must be thoroughly reviewed. Orders have been issued to guarantee an uninterrupted power supply.
Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh stated that, following directives from Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, obstacles hindering the power supply, which affect the quality of healthcare services, must be addressed. PSPCL has committed to installing an additional 11 KV line from the grid, supplementing the two existing lines, to prevent future power interruptions.
Dr. Singh also directed that sufficient extra diesel be kept on hand for emergency use in the hospital’s 20 generator sets. Furthermore, a joint team comprising officials from the PWD Electrical Wing and the Punjab State Power Corporation will be formed to promptly identify and address any deficiencies in the hospital’s power supply.
In an informal interaction with the media, Dr. Balbir Singh expressed profound sorrow over the sudden death of Subhasni, a third-year junior resident in the Department of Anesthesia at the Government Medical College. He extended his condolences to her parents from Tamil Nadu.
Dr. Singh also announced that a committee will be formed at the college to address student grievances and other issues. Additionally, the college’s director-principal has been instructed to establish a separate committee to investigate the cause of the junior resident’s death.
