Renowned academician, former VC bereaved

Prof. (Dr.) Pushpinder Jai Rup, wife of Dr Jairup Singh Ex Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar and founder VC of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda died just a few hours ago.
Disclosing her sister-in-law Dr Harshinder Kaur said “Prof. (Dr.) Pushpinder Jai Rup, expired just now after a valiant fight with metastatic breast cancer.”
Prof. (Dr.) Pushpinder Jai Rup was a noted Zoologist with 40 years of teaching experience at Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. She had been Chairperson of the Department of Zoology for three terms a total of nine years and member of decision-making important bodies of the University such as Syndicate, Senate, Academic Council, Planning Board etc. Environmental-Zoology, Insect Physiology and Evolution have remained her specializations, which she had taught with untiring passion. In addition to her writings in Punjabi (8 books and 140 articles on wildlife of Punjab) there are more than one hundred international and national research publications to her credit. She has also successfully executed eleven research projects besides guiding Ph.D., M.D., M.Phil., and M.Sc. research students.
