Renowned physicist and the Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University Prof Arvind delivered special lecture in Goa

In a program organized by the Government of Goa, Professor Arvind, a renowned physicist and the Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, delivered a special lecture on ‘A Glimpse into Quantum World from Atomic Spectra to Quantum Computing’. The one day event, ‘5th Manohar Parrikar Vidnayan Mahautsav,’ was organized by the Government of Goa’s Department of Science, Technology, and Waste Management on December 13 in the capital city of Panaji. Eminent scientists from across the country delivered special lectures on eight venues, simultaneously.

The inauguration was a session where all the dignitaries participated before moving out to specific venues to attend their respective sessions. Pramod Sawant, the Chief Minister of Goa, inaugurated the 5th Manohar Parrikar Vidnayan Mahautsav while Attanasio Monserrate, the Minister of Revenue, Labor, and Waste Management Department, participated as a guest of honor.

The parallel academic sessions covered diverse scientific topics. Prof. Arvind delivered his lecture on quantum physics at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda. Kartikeya Sarabhai, Director, CEE, Ahmedbad was the second speaker at the same venue who delivered his lecture on ‘Learning from Nature’.

Prof. Arvind talked about the three major revolutions in quantum physics, highlighting the significant developments in the field and their relevance. He elaborated about the new possibilities in quantum communication, India’s investment in the quantum mission, and discussions on topics ranging from the development of quantum technology to quantum computers and the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Renowned physicist and the Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University Prof Arvind delivered special lecture in Goa. Prof Arvind shared his experience of the event and appreciated the kind of atmosphere the event generated. He said, “They published the event with images of scientists on the bill-boards across the city. Having scientists on the bill-boards means science is the focus and it is an effective way to promote scientific knowledge.” He further added, “Science needs to be popularized and this event can be a model for others. All eight venues attracted a good number of students.”

The event received support from various government departments of the Goa state, including the Department of Higher Education, Directorate of Education, Directorate of Technical Education, Information and Promotion Department, Goa State Innovation Council, Goa State Council for Science and Technology, and the Center for Environment Education.
