Resentment may prevail in Punjab congress for ticket aspirants

Indian national Congress party leaders have already declared that ‘Winnability is the sole criterion for Congress ticket” for the upcoming assembly election.
But, this year large scale resentment may prevail in Punjab congress cadre as the top leaders are supporting their family members, kins over party workers, leaders, to get the party ticket for the upcoming assembly elections.
In the last assembly elections, Punjab congress adopted “One family one ticket” policy and remained stick on that formula.
But this year, once again the top leaders are eyeing two or more than two tickets for them and their family members, kins.
This may cause lots of resentment in the congress leaders, workers, as they are nurturing their area for the last five or more than five years and now the top leaders are eyeing ticket for their families, kins.
Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi is a sitting MLA from Chamkaur Sahib constituency in Rupnagar district. Now, Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s younger brother Dr Manohar Singh, who was posted as the senior medical officer (SMO) in the Kharar civil hospital in Mohali district, has resigned from the service and is vying to contest the upcoming state assembly elections from Bassi Pathana in Fatehgarh Sahib district. At present Gurpreet Singh is a sitting Congress MLA from Bassi Pathana.
Similarly senior congress leader and Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Lal Singh have announced that he will contest the upcoming state elections from Sanour constituency. His son Rajinder Singh is a sitting MLA from Samana. Both constituencies fall in Patiala district.
Recently congress Rajya Sabha member Partap Singh Bajwa, whose term is going to end in 2022 has hinted at contesting the upcoming Punjab assembly elections from Qadian segment in Gurdaspur district. Few days ago the Punjab Congress president projected the senior party leader’s younger brother and sitting MLA Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa as the nominee from this seat.
Another veteran leader Brahm Mohindra’s son Mohit Mohindra is planning to contest from Patiala (rural) and is already looking after his father’s constituency Patiala (rural). Now, after Capt Amarinder Singh left Congress, speculations are rife that the party high command may ask Brahm Mohindra to contest from Patiala (urban), instead of his seat Patiala (rural).
If the congress fails to implement “one family one ticket” than other senior leaders may also pressurize the party high command to allot their family members. kins a ticket. It may include for chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, who may seek ticket for her son-in-law Vikram Bajwa from Sahnewal or his son Rahul Sidhu. Punjab congress party president Navjot Singh Sidhu may seek a ticket for his wife also.
Guru Har Sahai sitting MLA Rana Gurmeet Sodhi may also demand ticket for his son Hira Sodhi, who too was keen to contest.
Deepinder Singh Dhillon who lost the 2017 assembly elections from Dera –Bassi and Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, candidate from Muktsar, are first cousins. Anandpur Sahib MP Ravneet Singh Bittu’s cousin Gurkirat Singh Kotli is a sitting MLA from Ludhiana district’s Khanna seat.
