RGMC members’ sounds poll bugle; Woman member throws her hat in club’s election to break the bastion of male members

The management of the Rajindra Gymkhana & Mahendra Club Ltd. (RGMC), Patiala had announced the election process to elect the new executive team for one year. The United Progressive group and Goodwill group with mutual understanding has fielded 6-6 members for various posts.
Today is the last date to file the nomination papers and 15 members filed their nomination papers for 12 posts. The interesting part in the process is that Dr Nidhi Bansal of Catalyst group (third front), a woman member has also filed her paper for the post of executive member. If she got elected as executive member, than she will become the first woman to break the bastion of male members in the RGMC’s history. Till date no female member remained part of the executive . The same is confirmed by a former secretary of the prestigious club.
Last year Dr Sangeeta Handa had broken the jinx and contested for the post of executive member. But she lost the election by a narrow margin of just around 4-5 votes.
At present club has around 2800 members and is governed by an executive of twelve members comprising president, vice president, hony. secretary, treasure, joint secretary and seven executive members .
Now, the scrutiny of the nomination papers will be held on october 3,2024 and by October 5,2024 members contesting for the any of the posts can withdraw their nomination. The voting, if required, will be held on October 19,2024.
On the last of filing nomination papers, only one person filed papers of the post of president, vice president, joint secretary, treasure. Two member filed papers for a single post of hony secy and nine members filed for the seven posts of executive members.

As per the set procedure, the secretary has called an Annual general Meeting (AGM) on October 19,2024 at 10.00 A.M in the club premises to do the ordinary business of adoption of accounts. If voting for any posts (hony secy and executive members) is required, it will happen after the AGM.
