“The Patiala Club” run by district administration failed to maintain its food quality even after repeated complaints lodged its members and guests. On June 9,2025 News Portal www.royalpatiala.in flashed a news “‘The Patiala Club’ under the command of DC flouting health safety norms, serving stale food to members, guests”.
Acting swiftly, today the district health officer (DHO) Dr Gurpreet kaur along with her team raided the club premises at lunch time and checked the quality of food, kitchen area, food stock etc being served to the club members, guests.
Later the district health officer (DHO) Dr Gurpreet kaur along with her team collected four samples of chilli-chicken, besan, salt and maida to check the quality of the food items, adulteration.
When contacted the DHO, Dr Gurpreet Kaur, she confirmed the checking and added “ last month also we had collected the food samples from the club, after receiving the complaint. Today, once again we came here to inspect the kitchen and collected the samples after receiving the compliant of serving of stale food to members, guests. We are going to send the samples to food laboratory for testing and if required, proper action would be taken against the defaulters under food act. She added the food is coming from MK Hotels. She added that the catering, kitchen contractor has shown them written orders of deputy commissioner, Patiala to run the food services till June 30,2025.”
As per available information, there is no Kitchen contractor at ‘The Patiala Club’ from the last 5-6 months. “The caretaker of the club had informed yesterday that Street Club” a local restaurant owner is running the kitchen.
In a recent incident, a local resident Gagandeep Singh Ahuja along with his family went to ‘The Patiala Club’ on Sunday, June 8,2025 to had a dinner.
To an utter surprise, the club catering served stale non-vegetarian items to the family. The family didn’t eat the chilli-chicken served by the club and asked the staff members what they had served? To club staff admitted the eating stuff is not consumable.

The club was a brainchild, dream project of former deputy commissioner of Patiala, Varun Roojam, IAS. The Club was inaugurated on January 27, 2016 by the than Divisional Commissioner of Patiala Division Ajeet Singh Pannu in the presence of then deputy commissioner Varun Roojam, IAS.
