Bahadurjeet Singh/Rupnagar, September 17,2024
Congress workers led by Party leader Brinder Singh Dhillon, staged a dharna in front of the SSP office at Rupnagar to protest against the ‘deteriorating’ law and order situation in Rupnagar and the state.
The protest dharna, joined by block presidents Sarabjit Singh and Avtar Singh along with other Congress party workers, was aimed to draw attention towards the alleged increasing incidents of crime, corruption, and drug trafficking in the region.
In his address, Brinder Singh Dhillon expressed grave concerns about the alleged surge in thefts, extortion, and the widespread availability of drugs in Rupnagar. He criticized the state government for its alleged failure to address these issues and claimed that illegal activities are thriving in the region, with drug peddlers operating openly. “The situation is so alarming that even cattle theft has become common, as seen in Nurpur Bedi, where even bulls are being stolen without any intervention from the authorities,” Dhillon remarked.
Dhillon levelled serious allegations against local MLA, Dinesh Chadha.
The memorandum submitted by the Rupnagar Congress to SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana calls for immediate action to restore law and order, targeting the rampant drug trade, thefts, and corruption in the region. The Congress party warned of further protests and the release of incriminating evidence if the state government fails to act.
