Rupnagar DC reviews flood protection works, directs timely completion and preparedness measures

In a proactive step towards strengthening flood preparedness in the district, Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar, Aditya Dachalwal, IAS, today conducted a comprehensive inspection of ongoing flood protection works in various flood-prone areas. The inspection covered key locations including Jindwari village, Harsa Bela village, Bhallan village, and Bhallari village.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress and quality of the flood protection measures being undertaken to safeguard lives and property ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. He emphasized the importance of timely completion of all ongoing works and directed the concerned departments to maintain high standards of execution to ensure effective flood management.

Aditya Dachalwal instructed Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nangal, Sachin Pathak, PCS, to ensure the timely identification and mapping of residents living in flood-prone areas. He highlighted that accurate and updated data would play a crucial role in facilitating swift evacuation and minimizing risks in case of any flood-like situation. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that preparedness at the administrative level is key to mitigating the impact of natural calamities.

Further, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Executive Engineer Drainage, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Gurtej Singh Garcha, to expedite all flood protection works and ensure their completion well before the onset of the flood season. He underlined that any delay in the execution of such critical infrastructure could pose serious challenges during emergencies.

The Deputy Commissioner also interacted with officials on-site and reviewed the availability of necessary resources and manpower required for effective flood response. He reiterated the administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of citizens through timely and coordinated efforts.

Present during the inspection were Tehsildar Nangal, Major Dr. Sumit Dhillon; XEN Drainage-cum-Mining Rupnagar, Sandeep; and SDO Drainage-cum-Mining Nangal, Narendra Kumar, along with other concerned officials.

The district administration remains vigilant and is taking all necessary steps to ensure robust preparedness to tackle any potential flood situation in the region.
