Rupnagar Police Nab ‘rape’ accused Sarpanch

Rupnagar Police on Wednesday arrested alleged rape accused Harvinder Singh Sarpanch, resident of village Kandhola, police station Sri Chamkaur Sahib.
Giving information in this regard, Senior Superintendent of Police Rupnagar Gulneet Singh Khurana said that case number 16 dated 16-02-2025 under Section 64, 61(2) BNS, 06 POCSO Act 3(2), (VA) SC/ST Act was registered against accused Sarpanch Harvinder Singh and Mandeep Singh, resident of village Kandhola, police station Sri Chamkaur Sahib, district Rupnagar on the statement of the victim girl. In this case, accused Mandeep Singh was arrested on 16 February 2025. But, the accused Harvinder Singh Sarpanch of village Kandhola had fled and gone into hiding fearing his arrest.
Giving further information, he said that during the investigation of the case, a case No. 23 dated 01.03.2025 under Section 249(B) BNS was registered against Nachhattar Singh, resident of #2014 Mahindra Colony Khamano, District Fatehgarh Sahib, who had given shelter to the accused, and he has also been arrested.
He said that during the interrogation, it has come to light that the Nachhattar Singh has been the manager of the hotel of the accused Harvinder Singh, who had given a mobile phone and a SIM after his name to the accused Harvinder Singh.
SSP said that following the evidences as well as investigating the case scientifically and technically, one more person namely Amandeep Singh alias Amna Sarpanch of village Ranke, police station Mullapur Dakha, District Ludhiana was arrested.
On interrogation of accused Amandeep Singh, it was found that Kulwant Singh, resident of village Sohia, police station Jagrao Hall, resident of Canada, who is the son of Harvinder Singh’s aunt, has given shelter to Harvinder Singh in his relative house. He has also been named in the case and his LOC was issued, who was detained by the Immigration Department, Mumbai on the basis of the LOC and was arrested from Mumbai Airport on 06.03.2025.
He said that accused Harvinder Singh was also trying to escape, for whom LOC was also issued and a reward of Rs 1 lakh was announced to the person providing information about the accused and which was circulated through electronic, print and social media.
He said that during the investigation, accused Harvinder Singh’s wife Manpreet Kaur was also arrested and sent to jail. During the investigation, the owner of Zamidars Dhaba cum Marriage Palace, Davinder Singh, has been named in the case and raids are being conducted for his arrest.
SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana said that different teams were formed under the leadership of SP Rupinder Kaur Sran, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sub Division Sri Chamkaur Sahib S. Manjit Singh, SHO Police Station Sri Chamkaur Sahib Ins. Gurpreet Singh and Incharge CIA Rupnagar Ins. Manphool Singh to search for the said accused. He said that the accused will be produced in court and police remand will be obtained, from which more revelations are likely to come.
