SAD reins again in the hands of Sukhbir Badal

Sukhbir Singh Badal’s election as the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president today seems to mere be a formality as he once again elected unopposed as President SAD. SAD reins once again in the hands of Sukhbir Badal on its 99th foundation day. Balwinder Singh Bhunder proposed his name for the post of President and others seconded it.

Earlier in the morning, on Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) 99th Foundation day, party president Sukhbir Singh Badal participated in ‘ardas’ of Sri Akhand Path at Amritsar on Saturday. He tweeted, “Today is landmark day for Punjabis. The party which reformed gurdwaras, participated in freedom struggle and led agitations for Punjabi suba, right to state waters and against emergency is marking 99th Foundation Day. Let us rededicate to ‘sewa’ of Punjab and Punjabiat.”

His brother in law and former minister in his cabinet Bikram Singh Majithia said in a tweet, “As we mark 99th Foundation day, I pay tribute to martyrs and party workers who kept Akali flag high through thick and thin. Let us pledge to follow rich traditions set by our predecessors and  rededicate ourselves to work for Punjab and Punjabiat with renewed vigour.”

Sukhbir Singh Badal ,born 9 July 1962 at Faridkot is a President of Shiromani Akali Dal, and is a Member Parliament from Ferozpur. Initially, he was educated at The Lawrence School, Sanawar. He completed an M.A. Hons School in Economics from Panjab University Chandigarh from 1980 to 1984 and an M.B.A from California State University, Los Angeles.He served as Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab from 2009 to 2017.

Sukhbir had entered politics with getting elected as member of the Lok Sabha in 1996. He became a minister of state in the Atal Behari Vajpayee-led NDA government and also became a Rajya Sabha member
