Sangrur police busted racket for inflicting fake injuries-SSP

Alarmed by steep rise in cases involving petty crimes in the district, the Sangrur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP)-led investigation on Monday busted a well organised racket engaged in inflicting fake injuries on the supposed victims to mislead police and attract harsher penal provisions against the accused.
Four persons have been booked of which two including a Civil Hospital employee and a private assistant of a doctor have already been arrested, SSP Swapan Sharma disclosed here adding that all those booked were part of a group which inflicted fake medico injuries to be shown as major injuries inflicted during a fight in villages and their role in other such cases is being investigated. Efforts are on to nab other two involved in this illegal activity, he added.
The action is result of a concerted approach to tackle and contain cases of petty crimes by studying reasons liable for these happenings, the SSP said explaining the rationale behind focusing his attention on such cases happened over past 5 years, after joining the district police.
While scrutinizing one such case involving a complainant Jagsir Singh Jagga son of a sarpanch in Kanaur Jattan village, the SSP said it came to light that Civil Hospital lab-assistant Rajinder guided Jagga to get an additional injury inflicted upon his finger from another Akashdeep of Kanoi village who works as a private assistant of a doctor.
Jagga had got a case registered against five others of his village namely Mandeep, Devinder, Amritpal, Bhupinder and Sukhdeep who were originally booked by the police under sections 323, 324, 341, 506, 148 and 149 of the IPC after which section 326 of the IPC was added at a later stage.
Jagga had only got injury upon his finger during the fight while his father who also accompanied during the quarrel was not harmed at all. Akashdeep deliberately inflicted another cut on the finger of Jagga who then misguided police by saying that the injury was inflicted by the accused during an attack.
A case has been registered under sections 182, 193, 194, 211 and 120-B of the IPC against Lab Assistant Rajinder (26), and Akashdeep (23), Jagsir Jagga and a Gurtej Singh resident of Kanaur Jattan village.
Divulging further, the SSP said 44 such cases have been found wherein complainant got a cuts on his hand during a quarrel, and thereby attracted section 326 of IPC. 16 of these cases were those wherein cut was inflicted by the attacker only on little finger, he added.
