Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust comes to rescue; distributes mask to laborers

As the air quality index is deteriorating in the region, Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust (SBDCT) has come forward to save workers, who have been working in grain markets during procurement season.

It is pertinent to mention that paddy season is on and the procurement and lifting process is ongoing in the ‘Anaaj Mandis’ of Punjab post harvest.

Keeping this in mind, Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust with the support of Urban Primary health centre (UPHC), New Yadwindra Colony has distributed about three thousands masks among the laborers in New Anaj Mandi at Sirhind Road, here, today.

Talking to the media about this initiative, Jassa Singh, National President of SDBCT said that under the guidance and support of S.P. Singh Oberoi (Managing Trustee and President) Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust has been in social service since last 12 years. It had distributed millions of masks along with the dry ration, PPE kits, medicines etc. during the Corona period.

He, further, lauded the efforts Medical Officer in charge of UPHC-NYC, Dr. Gurchandan Deep Singh, as whose persuasion SDBC Trust came to know about the health concerns of laborers. He also praised the staff at UPHC New Yadwindra Colony Patiala which has been working hard to provide best of health services to the people in its catchment.

On this occasion, the Medical Officer in charge of the Government dispensary of Anaj Mandi, UPHC New Yadwindra Colony Patiala, Dr. Gurchandan Deep Singh along with his staff and ASHA workers, spread awareness among the workers about their “rights to clean air”.

Dr. Gurchandan Deep Singh has guided the laborers how they can protect themselves from dust and particulate pollution. The workers have to work in dusty conditions during the cold season, due to which they often suffer from cough, cold and even asthma, COPD, bronchitis and prolonged exposure over the years may even lead to lung fibrosis and even certain cancers like mesotheliomas etc.
