Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and its party candidate from Puri Lok sabha seat, Sambit Patra, issued an unconditional apology after his “slip of tongue” on Lord Jagannath.
On Monday, Sambit Patra had said “Lord Jagannath is a devotee of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
His video went viral, with Odisha Chief Minister and the ruling Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik terming it an “insult to the Lord”.
After being embroiled in a controversy over his comments, Sambit Patra said he would undertake self-punishment by observing fast for three days from Tuesday.
Expressing regret over his statement, Patra posted on X, “For this mistake, I apologise at the feet of Lord Sri Jagannath. I will fast for the next three days to atone for this mistake.”
