Kanwar Inder singh/ February 10,2023

The appointment committee of the cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of 20 IPS officers of DGP levels and 33 IPS officers of ADGP level for posting at centre on deputation.

In Punjab five IPS officers of ADGP level including the officiating DGP Gaurav Yadav of 1992 batch, Anita Punj, SS Srivastava, Parveen Kumar Sinha, Amardeep Singh Rai all of 1994 batch are among the 33 IPS officers who have been selected for the Additional Director general (ADG) or Additional director General Equivalent (ADGE) level postings at centre.

At present Parveen Kumar sinha is holding the charge of ADGP/Cyber Crime and in additional charge of ADGP NRI. SS Srivastava is ADGP Security, AS Rai is ADGP Traffic and Anita Punj is director Punjab Police Academy, Phillaur.

The empanelment means that all five officers Gaurav Yadav, SS Srivastava, AS Rai, PK Sinha, Anita Punj are now eligible to be appointed at Central agencies like Research and Analysis Wing, Central Bureau of Investigation, Intelligence Bureau, National Investigation Agency, National Security Guard, Special Protection Group and paramilitary forces Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Central Industrial Security Force, Assam Rifles and Sashastra Seema Bal.

This might be the first time that such a large number of ADGP level officers have been empanneled for central appointment. In today’s order, out of 33 officers from all India, Punjab has the maximum number of officers in this list.

Last year, after the aam admi party (AAP) formed the government in Punjab in March 2022, Gaurav Yadav was appointed the officiating DGP of Punjab in July 2022, after current state police head VK Bhawra proceeded on a two-month leave. Later in September 2022, VK Bhawra was appointed as the chairman, Punjab Police Housing Corporation and Yadav was asked to continue as officiating DGP as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was also keen on retaining Yadav as the officiating DGP because of his action against drugs and gangsters.

Punjab director general of police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav is successful in eliminating gangster culture and curbing drug menace in his tenure.

At present two Punjab police officers are already holding the DGP level at centre. 1984 batch Punjab cadre IPS officer Samant Goel is Research and Analysis wing (RAW) chief and Dinkar Gupta is National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief.
