The corridor facilitates visa-free border crossing for Indian Sikhs and enables them to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib near Lahore. It links the shrine in Pakistan to Gurdwara Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur district in Indian Punjab.
Sidhu played an important role in the establishment of the Kartarpur Corridor along with then prime minister Imran Khan and Pakistan’s army chief in 2019 which made him hugely popular in both Pakistan and India.
