The Ludhiana police on Tuesday arrested the Lok Insaf Party sitting MLA from Atam Nagar, Ludhiana Simarjit Singh Bains.
Simarjit Singh Bains was arrested from the Ludhiana district courts complex amid high drama on Tuesday afternoon.
Simarjit Singh Bains was arrested from the Ludhiana district courts complex amid high drama on Tuesday afternoon, for his involvement in a group clash on Monday in which three supporters of Atam Nagar Congress candidate Kamaljit Singh Karwal were injured.
Karwal’s supporters alleged that shots were fired in the air to intimidate them and their vehicles were vandalised,
In a dramatic way Police sealed the court building before Bains was taken into custody. Bains on Tuesday had gone to attend a meeting called by the lawyers at lawyers’ chamber in the court complex.
A case under Sections 307, 427, 148, 149, 506 and 188 of the IPC, Section 51 of the Disaster Management Act, Section 3 of the Epidemic Disease Act, and Section 127 of the Representation of People’s Act was registered against Bains and 33 others.
Bains said that his supporters were not involved in any attack. “The Congress candidate is making baseless allegations to defame me as he knows he cannot defeat me,” he claimed.
