Society for Welfare of the Handicapped is now 51 years old

Patiala-Society for Welfare of the Handicapped® Patiala celebrated its Raising Day as 51stFoundation Day in April 2018 which came into existence 50 years ago in  April 1967  and as of now is managing three schools for special children viz Patiala School for the Blind, Patiala School for the Deaf and Patiala School for the Deafblind in which more than 330 students are studying both as Day Boarders and Hostlers (male & female). Govt.of Punjab has accorded as Best NGO  for Child Care with Punjab State Award-2014 and Best NGO by the Govt. of India-2015 for Child Care besides the schools have brought many laurels in various fields. Dr.B.S.Sohal President in his address reviewed the schools activities and extended welcome to all.

To celebrate its foundation day, a cultural program by schools children was held and students excelled in different fields have been honored with cash prizes and mementos.

On this day, Society has got another feather in its cap by arranging foundation stone of Early Intervention Centre for the deaf infants at schools itself which has been laid by KTS Tusli, MP and renowned lawyer of Supreme Court of India. Tusli appreciated the initiative of the society. Tusli has sanctioned Rs.46 lacs from  MPLAD funds and out of it Rs.33 lacs shall be utilized for the above centre in particular and remaining for computers/other items for the schools.
Col.(Retd.) Karaminder Singh, Secretary  in his  report told that the Society has more and more plans for future  for the cause of schools and students and told that as of now there was no grant to the schools and it ran on donations only  and has come up to a big institute complex. Now the society has started getting grants from govt. and other corners for the upliftment of schools.

Besides the Society has also released its quarterly publication for the first time highlighting its activities and Pawan Goyal Editor in Chief of newly released  magazine ADHARSHILA- Institute of Kindness – has told more and more coverage for the special children shall be there  and also appealed to associate with such publications whole heartedly.
