Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University (SGGSWU), run by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) is a missionary, charitable and humanitarian institution which aims to impart wholesome education to students without the barriers of caste, creed and religion. The former Chief Minister of Punjab, Late Sardar Parkash Singh Badal, announced the establishment of the University built on the ideals and philosophy depicted in Sri Guru Granth Sahib in 2004. The first academic session of the University commenced in July 2011 and there has been no looking back since then. With all kinds of support from the SGPC, the University has bloomed graciously at a momentous pace. The University has made its mark in the field of quality education and research, and has emerged as a premier institution of higher learning in North India.
The University aims to promote value based quality education and research. The faculty of the University has been awarded research projects by the national agencies such as the DST, CSIR and DAE etc., for its growth and expansion. A large number of faculty members are actively involved in carrying out quality research and their research papers are regularly published in journals of not only National and International repute, but also in SCI and Scopus Indexed journals. The University facility also owns patents in the field of sciences and education.
In order to promote scholastic excellence, the academic structure of the University has been divided into Faculty system like the Faculty of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies, Agriculture, Basic and Applied Sciences, Commerce and Management, Education and Information Science, Engineering and Technology, Languages, Law, Performing Arts, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences. The Faculty system is trans-disciplinary rather than being rigid and inflexible. Keeping pace with time, the University has adopted New Education Policy from session 2023-24.
The University students are provided with the state-of-the-art technological infrastructure by the way of well-equipped labs such as Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Electronics, Mechanical Engineering, English Communication Skills, Visual Arts, Physics, Chemistry, Computer, Chemistry, Zoology and Agriculture. Owing to the best of infrastructure, quality education and penchant for personality development of the students, the University is proud of its students for being placed in renowned MNCs and other sectors. Besides, imparting excellence in academics, the University lays emphasis on sports, extra-curricular and extra-mural activities. The students of the University have bagged medals and prizes at National Level Competitions. The University Gatka team has performed at various National Events. The University seeks to reach out to the larger community through its outreach programmes such as Plantation drives, distribution of essentials among needy and poor; Blood Donation Camps, Physiotherapy Camps and Community Engagement Programmes are organised on regular basis. In order to make education accessible for every student, the University offers scholarships worth crores under the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Scholarship Scheme, and various state and central government scholarship schemes.
