SSP Patiala viral audio row: Before high court hearing, police call akali dal leaders for investigation

Punjab police ADGP, Law and Order, SPS Parmar, IPS has issued a notice to shiromani akali dal leaders under section 94 BNSS(BHARATIYA NAGARIK SURAKSHA SANHITA) to join the inquiry into complaint No.253/S.A.D./2025 Dated 04-12- 2025 filed to the State Election Commission of Punjab and into the FIR 52 Dated 04-12-2025 lodged at Police Station Cyber Crime, Patiala.
As per available information, the ADGP Parmar has called Sukhbir Singh Badal, President, Shiromani Akali Dal, Adv. Arshdeep Singh Kler, Member Core Committee, Chief Spokesperson & President, Legal Wing, Shiromani Akali Dal, Sarabjit Singh Jhinjher, President, Youth Akali Dal, Rattandeep Singh Dhaliwal, who runs a You Tube Channel “Talk with Ratan.”
As per the notice, the ADGP has asked the leaders to join the investigation, “regarding the investigation of above-mentioned case FIR and inquiry into above-mentioned complaint filed before the State Election Commission, Punjab, the matter relates to circulation of audio clip on various social medial platforms, and, it appears that the original content is available with you. The content is required to be taken on record for further proceedings in the inquiry/investigation.”

It further said “ In view of the above, you are hereby directed to produce any oral/documentary/digital/electronic evidence in your possession to the undersigned in person or through an authorised representative in my office at Room No.307, 3rd Floor, Punjab Police Headquarters, Sector-9, Chandigarh at 11.00 am on 07-12-2025 without fail. The evidence is essential for the purposes of the inquiry/investigation and for bringing on record relevant evidence.”
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on December 4 moved the Punjab and Haryana high court, alleging misuse of police machinery to subvert the electoral process in Punjab for Zila Parishad, Block Samiti polls.
A public interest litigation (PIL) was filed by SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema and demanded an independent probe into an audio clip allegedly of Patiala senior superintendent of police instructing officers to deploy cops as a “partisan force to sabotage opposition candidates” during the nomination process. The plea also demanded to deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CRPF) or independent observers till the conduct of elections.
The court deferred the hearing for Monday (December 8,2025), and said the state government and the state election commission may file their responses by then.
