All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) seeks immediate intervention of the Ministry of Power and Chandigarh administration to stay the process of handing over the assets of UT Electricity department to a Kolkata firm as it violates Electricity Act 2003..

Padamjit Singh Chief Patron AIPEF has today  written a letter to UT administrator, Union  Home Minister  , Ministry of Power that move to privatize Chandigarh electricity department  is violative  of section 131 of Electricity Act 2003 which t makes mandatory that when the  assets are transferred it should be based on revenue potential of such  assets.

As per press reports, a private firm is likely to take charge of the electricity department in the first week of February .Padamjit Singh said that UT Chandigarh is rushing through with transfer of assets though it clearly violates electricity act. AIPEF demands that the Government of India should intervene and order a stay on illegal transfer of assets. The transfer of assets should be only for fair value and this has not been ensured.

Shailendra Dubey Chairman AIPEF said that  power sector employees  across the country held protest demonstrations  on Friday   joined hands  to protest privatisation of power in Chandigarh ,UP ,Rajasthan as per the directive of National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers (NCCOEEE).

Stay process of handing over of Chandigarh electricity department to private company as it violates Act 2003- AIPEF spokesperson V K Gupta informed  that the Chandigarh administration  is likely to hand over the Power Department to a private company  on 01 February, 2025. Further privatisation of two distribution companies (Discoms) in Uttar Pradesh is on cards and privatisation of distribution and handing over of thermal plants in the name of Joint ventures is going on in Rajasthan.
