Strike by Inspector Food Supplies Union Punjab; accuses authorities for deliberately ignoring their genuine demands

Inspectors of Food supplies department remained on strike for two days, throughout Punjab.

The Inspector union had given a strike call for August 1 and 2 after the authorities failed to adhere to their demands. Now, they are planning to stage a statewide dharna at its headoffice at Chandigarh on Monday, August 5,2024

As per Inspector Food Supplies Union Punjab president Harmandeep Singh, “the union had given a list of unmet demands to the managing director, food and civil supplies department, Punjab on July 25,2024 and requested the authorities to look into their demands by July 31,2024. Otherwise the union members will go on strike on August 1, 2, 2024 at their district office level. After that the Inspector Food Supplies Union Punjab will stage a dharna at department’s head office from August 5,2024.”

Harmandeep Singh further added that “after the authorities failed to pay any heed to our demands, we staged dharna at our district office level.”

Another officer on the condition of anonymity said “we are asking for the resolution of genuine demands but few officials at HO are deliberately adopting the dilly delaying tactics. After two day dharna, nothing has happened. Now, our next course of action is staging a dharna at Chandiagrh on August 5,2024 ””

When contacted general manger, finance of Pungrain Survesh Kumar , who is one of the key officer of the department  , said “no demands or charter of demands are received by me. “ When shared the demands, he said” I have to clear one issue of their, rest are no under my prerogative.”

He further added, “for some demands, their (inspectors) DMs are not clearing, submitting the documents. They can ask their DMs at local levels and submit the required documents. For some issues the amendments in rules are required. Moreover, the CFA is not showing any interest. They (Inspectors) must fulfill the conditions and I’ll be happy to release the payment, clear their issues at once.”

“They are submitting old cases of kanda (weighing) payments. How can we verify, release the payments. Moreover, they can come and I’ll try to solve all their issues. I had no knowledge of their strike plan. Today afternoon i came to know that inspectors are on strike for two days ” added Survesh

Strike by Inspector Food Supplies Union Punjab; accuses authorities for deliberately ignoring their genuine demands. As per unconfirmed reports, the authorities has invited them (inspector union) for a meeting on August 5,2024 at around 12:00 noon at Chandigarh.
