Deputy Commissioner Barnala Tej Partap Singh Phoolka visits the fields of Bhagatpura Maur and Ugoke village after receiving the information about stubble burning. The Deputy Commissioner sensitized the farmers not to do so, because stubble burning is harmful for environment, human health and dangerous for corona patients. Therefore, burning of wheat stubble will not be tolerated at all, DC added.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the police, vigil teams, agriculture department, volunteers and GOGs to keep a close watch on such cases. He said that in such cases 9 FIRs have been registered in the district. Apart from this, special teams have been formed in the district under the leadership of 12 cluster incharges to keep a close vigil to prevent stubble burning.
Appealing to the farmers, the Deputy Commissioner said that burning of crop residues not only reduces the fertility of the land but also reduces the ability of human body to fight with the corona virus.
In the 1980s, the farmers started using combine harvesters to cut paddy and it left longer stubble, about 50-60 cm long, in the fields, compared to cutting by hand, which left behind 5-10 cm long residue. The longer stubble led to increase in burning of stubble.
