Syndicate meeting held at GNDU; key decisions taken

The meeting of the Syndicate of Guru Nanak Dev University held today in the Syndicate Room of the University. Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice-Chancellor presided over the meeting while Prof. K.S Kahlon, Registrar presented the agenda. Prof. S.S. Behl, Dean Academic Affairs and members of Syndicate were present to discuss various issues. Prof. Ved Parkash, former Chairman, UGC, Prof. Mehmood Mian, Dr. Sukhdev Singh, Dr. Parminder Singh, Dr. Sarbjinder Singh participated online in the meeting.
While welcoming the members, Vice Chancellor Prof. Sandhu informed the syndicate that Guru Nanak Dev University would provide 35 percent reduction in hostel fee during the session 2020-21. He said that this facility has been given to students keeping in view the hardships being faced by the students in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic and it’s a one time measure. He said that the syndicate has also decided to reduce one time life membership fee for alumni of the University to fifty percent for Indian members i.e. rupees five thousand and for abroad members US dollars two hundred.
In another decision, the syndicate also approved to organise logo competition for the Incubation Centre and Brand Name competition among the students of main campus. Suitable prizes will be awarded to the winners. The approval to establish a gallery on the name of Novelist S. Nanak Singh at the third floor of Bhai Gurdas Library has been given in the meeting. As many as 09 Ph.D degrees were approved in this meeting.
The syndicate also decided to handover a bus to SCIROX, Science Club of the University for the exhibition purpose. The Science Club will organize exhibitions in the various schools/colleges of the Amritsar districts.
He also gave details about activities of the University. He said that during this prevailing situation, the University is committed to provide education through various online portals to the students of the University. Prof. Sandhu thanked the syndics and others for the progress of the University and expected more suggestions and cooperation for the further upliftment of this University. The members of the Syndicate congratulated the Vice-Chancellor and others for the overall development of the University.
