Tax evasion-Patiala chaat wala made a record,surrender Rs 1.20 crore

One of Patiala’s famous chaatwala-cum-caterer Rinku Chaat World made a record by declaring an undisclosed income of Rs 1.20 crore to the income tax department, beating Manchester of India and Industrial hub Ludhiana famous pakora wala who declared an undisclosed income of Rs 60 lakh to the tax department around 10 days ago.
When income tax sleuths came calling at Patiala’s famous Rinku chaatwala, they had a big surprise in store for them: Rs 1.20 crore undisclosed income.
“The owner had not filed ITR for the past two years. After conducting a judicious survey, tracing the footfall at his shop and monitoring his supplies to other shops and marriages, IT sleuths raided his shop and found that he had made investments in real estate,” said an I-T official, who was part of the raiding team. The Chaatwala was a wealthy person who had built two party halls and normally charged lakhs per function for his chaat services.
The chaat wala also has booking offices on Sirhind road where he takes bulk orders for marriages and other functions.
In IT survey, officials have found that famous eateries are making huge money but not paying taxes according to his income. It is likely the amount of tax evasion could increase as most of his sales and purchase have not recorded in books.IT officials are both happy and surprise after the raid.
The survey at his premises was launched by I-T department teams under instruction of Parneet Sachdev, Principal Commissioner Ludhiana-III, and Patiala Commissionerate.
