Teaching, research helped Thapar Institute to rank 2nd in its category in THE Asia University Ranking

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, has been ranked 156 among 489 institutions in Asia and 18th among 56 institutions within India in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2020. TIET is 2nd among 10 private institutions ranked within India. Earlier, In THE Asia University Rankings 2019, TIET was in 251-300 bracket. Speaking on this, Director, Dr. Prakash Gopalan said, “A quantum jump of more than 100 ranks in one year speaks about our achievements in teaching and research.
A bright future awaits a Thapar graduate as the University has embarked on a program to modernize itself in all aspects. An outcome based, experiential, self-directed and project led education coupled with high research expectations from the faculty will catapult us to a higher standing in time to come. All these rankings of TIET, shows its continuity to be better and compatible choice for engineering aspirants all over India”.
The Ranking focused on five key areas and 13 performance indicators for ranking: teaching (25%), research (30%), citations (30%), industry income (7.5%) and international outlook (7.5%).

The 2020 Asia University Rankings reveal the best colleges and universities in Asia, featuring institutions from 30 territories.
Japan leads the way with 110 universities in the ranking, while China comes second with 81 ranked institutions. India is the third most represented country with 56 universities.
The Asia University Rankings are based on the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World University Rankings, but these have been re calibrated to reflect the attributes of Asia’s universities.

Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, previously known as Thapar University, is a private institute deemed to be university, in Patiala,Punjab. It was founded in 1956 by Karam Chand Thapar. The institute has been granted full autonomy and the status of deemed-to-be-university by the University Grants Commission.
