Tewari corners Yogi over COVID management charges

Bahadurjeet Singh/Chandigarh, May 21,2024

INDIA candidate from Chandigarh Manish Tewari today lashed out at the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his statements on COVID management and describing him (Tewari) as an ‘Udan Khatola’.

“It is a classic case of pot calling the kettle black”, Tewari remarked, while pointing out, “Uttar Pradesh under Yogi was the most mismanaged state during the COVID pandemic with bodies overflowing in Ganga and Yamuna and still that man has the audacity to question our COVID management”.

Reacting to Yogi’s ‘Udan Khatola’ remark, Tewari retorted, “I am not sure whether by saying that he, by implication, actually meant me or was targeting his own Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is from Gujarat and is fighting from Varanasi in UP and with whom Yogi does not enjoy a comfortable relationship”.

Responding to Yogi’s speech here yesterday, where he had made baseless claims on COVID management, Tewari said with “confidence” that not a single person from his previous parliamentary constituency Sri Anandpur Sahib needed to move or walk back to home. He said, as an MP he ensured that everyone got proper food and care during the lockdown period that his (Yogi’s) party’s government had imposed arbitrarily.

Tewari reminded Yogi that it was Uttar Pradesh under his Chief Ministership that millions of people suffered immensely, so much so, bodies were overflowing in holy Ganga and Yamuna. “Leave aside protecting people or providing any aid or relief to them, you could not provide decent and respectable funeral to those who died of COVID for want of care, concern, medicines and oxygen in your state under your nose”, Tewari told the UP Chief Minister, while adding, “you and your party and the government owe an apology to the nation for the loss of precious lives during the COVID”.

Reacting to Yogi’s jibe that he was an ‘Udan Khatola’, Tewari asked, “do you mean to say that your Prime Minister is also an Udan Khatola who moved from one state to another, while I have only moved to the capital city of the state from where I was an MP earlier”.

Tewari asks for 10 year ‘balance sheet’ from Tandon

Tewari asked his BJP rival, Sanjay Tandon to provide the balance sheet of ten years of their “four engine” government. He took a dig at Tandon for describing the Congress manifesto as a bunch of lies. He said, manifestoes are promises and these cannot be dismissed instantly. “You need to wait and watch before being dismissive”, he told Tandon.

“Yes, you owe an answer and explanation for the loss of ten precious years when there was the BJP government at the centre, a BJP appointed UT administrator, a BJP MP and a BJP Mayor”, he pointed out, while asserting, BJP cannot run away with another bunch of promises when it owes answers about its past promises.
