The prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings released its world rankings on 11th September’2019 at Zurich, Switzerland.

Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET) is ranked as the best private university leaving all other private institutions behind. TIET shares this honour with another private institute, both institutes are ranked 10th among all institutes in India, including the IITs.

TIET is in the 601-800 bracket among the 1396 institutions ranked worldwide and joint 10th along with 13 other institutes in India. Six IITs (IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Guwahati, IIT Bhubaneswar, IIT BHU and IIT Hyderabad) and eight other public institutions appear in the same bracket with TIET, Patiala.

TIET has performed well in citations (research influence) by scoring 416th rank worldwide, highlighting its global role in spreading new knowledge and ideas.In 2019, TIET was in 801-1000 bracket worldwide and joint 22nd within India.

THE World University Ranking is focused on five key areas and 13 performance indicators. The five key areas are teaching (30%), research (30%), citations (30%), international outlook (7.5%) and industry income (2.5%).

In National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2019 of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), TIET was ranked 23rd in the Engineering Institutions category and 27th in the University category. UG and PG programmes at TIET have received accreditation’s from national and international bodies and the Institute is a preferred choice for professional education in the country.
