The District Legal Services Authority, Patiala observes World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

The District Legal Services Authority, Patiala observed World Elder Abuse Awareness Day today in Patiala. The event aimed to raise public awareness against the abuse and neglect of the elderly and was organized under the directions of the Punjab State Legal Services Authority at the Aged Day Care and Wellness Centre, village Rongla, and at Jyot Ashram, Guru Nanak Charitable Welfare Society, Patiala. Special interactive sessions were held with elderly residents.

On this occasion, Amandeep Komboj, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, met with the residents of the old age home and shared the significance of this globally observed day. She emphasized that the day is marked to spread awareness against exploitation, negligence, and abuse of senior citizens and to promote their rights, safety, and welfare.

During the program, the elderly were informed about laws related to environmental protection, free legal aid services, the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) helpline number 15100, and the benefits of Lok Adalats and Permanent Lok Adalats. Additionally, para-legal volunteers conducted awareness seminars to educate the elderly in detail about their rights and available facilities.

On this occasion, a special plantation drive was also carried out under the campaign “Har Koi – Ek Vriksh” (Everyone – One Tree). On June 15, 2025, various saplings were planted at the Aged Day Care and Wellness Centre, village Rogla, Patiala, in a joint effort by the District Legal Services Authority, the Forest Department, and the Punjab Eco-Friendly Association (PEFA – Registered). This initiative was seen as a historic step towards not only the welfare of the elderly but also the care of families, society, and the environment.

The event effectively highlighted the importance of dignity, safety, and rights of senior citizens and contributed significantly to increasing social awareness. Through this effort, the District Legal Services Authority, Patiala, set an example of how legal support, social responsibility, and environmental care can be integrated to move toward a progressive future.
