Third politician from Rajasthan sworn in as 37th Governor of Punjab

Gulab Chand Kataria was sworn in as 37th Governor of Punjab on Wednesday. The Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court, Justice Sheel Nagu, administered the oath of office to Gulab Chand Kataria at Punjab Raj Bhavan. Governor Haryana, Bandaru Dattatreya, Chief Minister Punjab Bhagwant Singh Mann were present on the stage.
Gulab Chand Kataria is the third politician from Rajasthan wo has been appointed as Punjab’s governor and UT administrator.
Earlier, Amin ud-din Ahmad Khan was appointed the 13 th governor of Punjab (1981–1982). He was a leader of the regional Indian National Congress party, and became a member of the Legislative Assembly of Rajasthan (MLA), and subsequently the ‘Minister Public Works Department’, Government of Rajasthan from 1967 to 1976.
Later, Vijayender Pal Singh Badnore an Indian politician who was the Governor of Punjab from 22 January 2016 – 30 August 2021, was a member of Rajya Sabha, elected on 17 June 2010. He was earlier a member of the 14th Lok Sabha and 13th Lok Sabha of the Indian Parliament. He represented the Bhilwara constituency of Rajasthan and is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political party from 1999 to 2009 and also 4 time Member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly (1977–80, 1985–90, 1993–98, 1998–99).
Now, Gulab Chand Kataria, a third politician from Rajasthan has been appointed as the 37th Governor of Punjab. Kataria was born to Late Hukmi Chand Kataria and Late Lahari Bai on 13th October 1944. He did his Masters in Geography from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. He studied Law also from Mohanlal Sukhadia University, Udaipur. He is married to Anita Kataria and has 5 daughters.
Gulab Chand Kataria hails from Udaipur, Rajasthan. He was the former Home Minister of Rajasthan and the leader of opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly prior to his appointment as the Governor.
Today, Gulab Chand Kataria took the oath of Governor in Hindi. He signed the oath form that was counter signed by the Chief Justice. Later, Gulab Chand Kataria signed separate charge reports, both as Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Union Territory, Chandigarh.
Earlier, the Governor designate arrived at the Guru Nanak Dev Auditorium of Punjab Raj Bhavan in a ceremonial procession. He was accompanied by the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Chief Secretary of Punjab, Anurag Verma sought the permission to start the ceremony and read out the warrants of appointment of Gulab Chand Kataria as the Governor of Punjab.
