The Department of General & Laparoscopic Surgery at Govt Medical College and Rajindra Hospital Patiala is conducting a three-day open/laparoscopic surgical workshop cum hands-on training at the hospital premises. This workshop is being organized in association with Johnson & Johnson India Ltd.
The highlight of the workshop is the ‘on-the-wheels surgical workstation,’ providing hands-on training for honing basic surgical skills like knot tying, tissue handling, and anastomotic techniques, along with basic laparoscopic simulator sets for advanced skills.
Dr. (Prof) Harnam Singh Rekhi, Organising Chairperson and Medical Superintendent of Rajindra Hospital, emphasized that the workshop provides an excellent opportunity for budding resident surgeons to develop a better understanding of basic surgical skills. The hands-on training in both open and laparoscopic surgery will also help younger surgeons further polish their skillset.
Dr. (Prof) Ashwani Kumar, Head of the Department of Surgery and Co-organising Chairperson, reiterated the importance of these workshops. He mentioned that the workshop offers open and laparoscopic surgical simulations for resident surgeons under the guidance of senior surgeons, helping them build and enhance their skills.
The workshop’s inauguration was graced by Dr. Bhagwant Singh, an eminent surgeon and Member of Punjab Medical Council, along with other senior surgeons and faculty members. Dr. Malkiat Singh, Assistant Professor at the Dept of Surgery, serves as the organizing secretary of the event.
The workshop’s benefits extend beyond surgery residents, as it will also benefit other surgical branches like Gynaecology.
