Time to promote distance/online education as a viable alternative- VC

With more and more institutes of higher education taking to alternative modes to reach out to their students, distance education learning and online education gaining strength as a viable mode of higher education.

Maharaja Ranjit Singh Punjab Technical University (MRSPTU), constituent colleges and Private Colleges affiliated with the university has also launched coordinated effort for popularizing online/distance education and improving skill development courses.

A meeting chaired by MRSPTU, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu and comprising university officials, Chairmen/Directors of various private colleges affiliated with the university held at the VC office here on Wednesday deliberated on promoting distance education in collaboration with Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, which is a distance learning university founded in 2019 is located at Patiala.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Buta Singh Sidhu said that Distance and online education has wider access to the people of urban and rural areas and time has come to promote distance/online education as a viable alternative.

During the meeting improving online and skill development courses was also discussed, besides discussing the admission campaign and strategy for the coming academic sessions.

It has also been decided to establish a mechanism to bring best talent to produce technically skilled manpower with an integrated and technology oriented education to serve the needs of the industry and society. Promotional activities and making the Training and Placement Cell dynamic and impressive were also discussed.

Technical education colleges affiliated with the prestigious university under its territorial ambit have pledged to extend whole hearted support. The University officials also promised to solve genuine issues of colleges at the earliest and introduction of ERP system soon.

MRSPTU established by Government of Punjab has already become epitome of professional education. The University offers a wide array of courses under graduate, post graduate and Skill development courses in Science and Technology, Management, Architecture, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Technology, newer teaching and research programmers through its affiliated/ constituent colleges and Campus. The university has 11 districts under it including Bathinda, Barnala, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Mansa, Moga, Muktsar, Patiala and Sangrur.
