In a state level seminar on sustainable tourism for development at Punjabi University, Patiala, Punjab tourism and cultural affairs minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, , said that a five star boutique hotel worth Rs 25 crore  will be developed at Patiala’s Qila Mubarak.  The function was held to celebrate the Tourism Day at Punjabi University, Patiala. He further discloses that Punjab Government is also bringing out a new tourism policy aimed not only at promoting heritage but on revenue generation from tourism also.

The implementation of new policy will usher in a new era in Punjab tourism, which was completely ignored in the past 10 years ruled by SAD-BJP government .The policy, which is to be bought by the government , visualizes circuit wise promotion of rich heritage, development of heritage hotels, and wedding destinations in Punjab and that will boost the economy of the state.

The department also proposes to develop three wedding destinations at traditional inns one in Patiala, Ludhiana and Amritsar district. The department has also identified twenty heritage properties, and that would be converted in heritage hotels and resorts along with four tourism circuits including Mughals, Sufi ,Religious and Maharajas and will be formed, which will facilitate NRI tourists to cover each and every spots during their visits.

Minister further disclosed that three hotel management institutes have been asked to prepare report on possible improvements in dhabas of the state and in a positive move Punjab government will register all the dhabas in state to provide quality and hygienic food to the tourists in state.

BS Ghuman, vice-chancellor of Punjabi university, which hoisted the state level Tourism Day function said the need was to involve educational institutions to work in a coordinated manner for wide-spreading the message of Punjab as an iconic tourist spot.
