The only working unit of Talwandi sabo Power Limited (TSPL), Mansa today stopped working. With this all the three units of TSPL are now out of power-stoped generating power.

TSPL is one of the largest power generators in Punjab. It has 3 units of 660 MW and generates total 1980 MW. With this third unit sop working, harsher weekend is predicted, in Punjab.

Along these three units of TSPL, state owned GGSSTP Ropar’s unit number 3 of 210 WM and Ranjit sagar dam’s unit number 1 of 150 MW are also out of order.

When contacted the TSPL authorities, they said “our unit number 2, which stopped working, develops a technical issue. It will be ok and start generating power within 48 hours. They further elaborated that our other unit which developed the technical snag, last Saturday late evening, will be functional, very soon. The root cause of these two units, which were shut down, is  the usage of high ash content coal instead of import substitute coal. The second unit is likely to start its operations within 48 hours while the third unit has turbine issues. Engineers from Korea , BHEL and GE are working day and night to identify and rectify the problem at the earliest.”

With this problem, PSPCL is forced to purchase electricity from open market at higher rates. The state generation is reduced to around 4200 MW from all sources- Thermal, Hydel, Solar, Non-Solar etc.

PSPCL has already announced Regulatory Measures on Industrial Consumers , till July 11,2021, throughout Punjab, so that 8 hours power supply to be given to farmers, for paddy transplantation.
