Twist in Channi’s alleged misappropriation of funds complaint; complainant lodges protest with vigilance

As per reports, former Congress Chief Minister of Punjab Charanjit Singh Channi and the then team of officials of Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) are under the radar of the state vigilance bureau for alleged diversion of funds worth Rs 1.47 crore. It is alleged that the funds were allegedly misappropriated to pay the bills of former CM Channi’s son’s marriage.
The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had asked the state government to order a Vigilance probe against former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi into the expenditure incurred on the marriage of his son.
Parambans Singh Bunty Romana, general secretary of the Shiromani Akali Dal, alleged that there was a huge misappropriation of funds in the organisation of the state-level “Dastaan-e-Shahadat” function organized by the state Tourism department during Channi’s tenure.
As per reports, an RTI application filed by a resident of Bathinda has opened the pandora box which shocked the vigilance bureau officials as the bills raised to inaugurate the ‘Dastan-e-Shahadat’ theme park in November 2021 were inflated and Rs 97 lakh was spent to raise the stage for the programme.
But, now a person, who is said to be the complainant in the money embezzlement in organizing “Dastan-e- Shahadat” function held on November 19,2022 at Chamkaur Sahib, the home constituency of former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi has requested the chief director, Punjab vigilance bureau to verify the complaint against SK Chadha, Chief General Manager, Tourism, Punjab and Prem Chand, XEN , Tourism as he had never filed any such complaint.
He added that,” he is astonished to see the media personnel in his house and suddenly he became famous in the state of Punjab. Due to this a gross and grave omission on the part of state vigilance and strict action is required against the persons involved in the disclosure of the said complaint to the media.”
He requested the Chief Director Vigilance bureau that ‘he should not be used as a scapegoat for appeasing your political masters and take necessary action as per law against the person who used, abused and misused the name of the applicant.”
