Two state universities vice chancellor gets extension; Punjab Governor cut short their terms

In a surprise move, Punjab Governor Banwari Lal Purohit has cut short the extension period of Dr Jaspal Singh, Vice Chancellor Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Prof Karamjit Singh, Vice Chancellor Jagat Guru Nanak Dev Punjab State Open University, Patiala upto six months.
Both the vice chancellors granted six months extension.
Dr Jaspal Singh, the Vice Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), has recently completed his second term.The government had proposed one-year extension to Professor Jaspal Singh Sandhu and Prof Karamjit Singh an appointees of former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh. However, Governor Purohit, while citing UGC norms, told the government to initiate the process of finding a new V-Cs for both the universities.
