UGC-MMTTC Punjabi University starts on-line “NEP Orientation & Sensitization Programme” to enhance Education Skills in higher education institutes

Under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor of Punjabi University, Patiala, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (MMTTC), Punjabi University, Patiala, commenced an 8-day Online Programme on National Education Policy (NEP): Orientation and Sensitization.

Director, MMTTC, Prof. (Dr.) Raman Maini, welcomed the Chief Guest of the day, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala, and the Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Sukhjeet Kaur, Professor Computer Science and Engineering and Director, Planning and Monitoring, Punjabi University, Patiala, along with the Course Coordinators and all the participants.

Welcoming the dignitaries and participants, Dr. Raman Maini, Director, MMTTC, expressed gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for his visionary leadership, consistent support, and encouragement in strengthening academic excellence and faculty development initiatives of the University. He lauded Dr. Jagdeep Singh for inspiring teachers to engage with cutting-edge knowledge and national educational reforms. He also thanked the Course Coordinators—Prof. (Dr.) Balraj Singh Saini, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Dean, College Development Council, Punjabi University, Patiala, and Dr. Williamjeet Singh, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Punjabi University, Patiala—for their dedicated efforts.

Dr. Maini also acknowledged the valuable presence and academic guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sukhjeet Kaur, and Engineering and noting his contributions to policy-making, research, and academic planning at the University.

In his message for the inaugural session, Prof. (Dr.) Jagdeep Singh emphasized that the purpose of this orientation programme is to prepare teachers for academic excellence, effective professional performance, and active engagement in the task of national reconstruction, while popularizing the National Education Policy. He further stated that the NEP 2020, introduced by the Government of India, is a landmark reform—the first education policy of the 21st century and the first in over three decades. It seeks to create a holistic, flexible, and multidisciplinary education system, deeply rooted in Indian values while aligning with global standards.

The Guest of Honour, Prof. (Dr.) Sukhjeet Kaur, highlighted that one of the most transformative aspects of the NEP is its emphasis on flexibility and choice. The policy moves away from rigid streams and allows students to select subjects across disciplines. This opens doors for creativity, innovation, and truly personalized learning paths. She added that the policy promotes multidisciplinary education, enabling students to blend arts with sciences, and vocational subjects with academics.

Course Coordinator Dr. Balraj Singh Saini, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering Dean, College Development Council, encouraged participants to embrace multidisciplinary approaches in line with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020), to enhance teaching, research, and institutional development while addressing societal needs.

Course Co-Coordinator Dr. Williamjeet Singh, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, emphasized the vision of NEP-2020, elaborated on the various themes of the National Education Policy and encouraged participants to engage actively. He encouraged active participation and proposed the vote of thanks.

During the closing remarks, Dr Maini extended heartfelt praise and gratitude to the dedicated staff members Dr. Mandeep Singh (Technical Officer-II), Dyal Dutt, Surinder Singh, Kanta Rani, Mahaveer Singh and Surinder Kumar highlighting their exemplary organizational skills and crucial contributions in the online Short-Term Course.
