Union Budget 2026 reflected  a deep centralising mindset and continued neglect of Punjab, said Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD)senior vice president and  spokesperson Dr Daljit Singh Cheema.

He said that there is no legal or financial roadmap for MSP, no relief from rising farm input costs, and no debt restructuring — despite Punjab’s farmers ensuring national food security.

He said that no special package has been given to bail out Punjab which is under heavy debt and has reached a point of financial emergency.

Union Budget reflects a deep centralising mindset and continued neglect of Punjab: SAD

He said that Federalism is weakened as States’ share in revenues remains stagnant, while Centrally sponsored schemes undermine State priorities and autonomy.

Equally troubling is the silence on Dalit welfare — there is no targeted measures for landless Dalit agricultural labourers, no special allocation for education, skill development or social mobility in Punjab where Dalits form a significant population,SAD leader said

He further said that the common man got no real tax relief, inflation pressures continue, and youth unemployment remains unaddressed.

He said that Punjab feeds India, safeguards its borders, and upholds constitutional values but this budget does neither justice to the States nor to the marginalised sections of society.
