Vehicles without high-security number plates in Punjab to be challaned

Issuing an order (STC – P (P-2) 20502-602 dt 12/08/2021), the Punjab State Transport Commissioner has clearly said that any vehicle which plys on the road without a high security plate, will be challaned now. According to section 41 of the Central Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and section 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rule 1989, it is necessary to affix High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) on the vehicles.
Punjab State Transport Commissioner, in a direction sent to the Group Secretary, Regional Transport Authority Punjab and Group Sub Divisional Magistrate cum Registering and Licensing Authorities (Motor Vehicle), Punjab, said that this also came to the fore through the media that some anti-social elements are carrying out illegal work by putting up fake registration number plates. For this reason, special checking of vehicles should be done and action should be taken against those vehicles which are plying without a high security registration number plates. If a vehicle is caught for the first time without HSRP, then the owner will have to pay a penalty of Rs 2000 on the spot and Rs 3000 for any subsequent offence.
