Vidhan Sabha Committee on Panchayati Raj Institutions Reviews Ongoing Development Works in Patiala

The Punjab Legislative Assembly Committee on Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) today reviewed the progress of various ongoing development projects under the Panchayati Raj Department in Patiala district.

The meeting was chaired by Committee Chairman MLA (Budhlada) Principal Budh Ram, who directed all officers to expedite the pending works in close coordination with the respective constituency MLAs. Committee members MLA Gurlal Ghanour, MLA Neena Mittal, and MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa also participated in the deliberations and discussed key issues relating to rural development and public welfare projects.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed progress in multiple priority sectors including Development of sports stadiums, Cleaning and rejuvenation of village ponds, Establishment and functioning of libraries, Action against illegal encroachments on Panchayat lands, Implementation of MGNREGA, Upkeep and construction of Dharamshalas, Utilisation of 15th Finance Commission funds, Rangla Punjab and Smart Village initiatives, Construction of streets, drainage, and sewerage lines.

The Committee noted with satisfaction that Patiala district ranks first in Punjab under PMAY, with 2,721 beneficiaries having received all installments. The district also holds the top position in the Punjab Rural Livelihood Mission, with 5,412 active Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

The Committee thoroughly examined the pending audit paragraphs and instructed all BDPOs and concerned officers to resolve them within the stipulated timeframe. It also summoned certain officers to present relevant records during the next meeting scheduled for 24 February at the Vidhan Sabha.

Committee members MLA Gurlal Ghanour, MLA Neena Mittal, and MLA Kuljit Singh Randhawa expressed specific concerns regarding the timely execution of various development projects. Chairman Principal Budh Ram emphasized that no development funds should remain unutilised and that all works must be completed within the designated timelines. He reiterated that the year-round functioning of Vidhan Sabha Committees requires full cooperation and seriousness from all officials.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Varjeet Walia welcomed the Committee Chairman and members. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Damanjit Singh Mann assured the Committee that all directions issued would be implemented promptly.

Vidhan Sabha Deputy Secretary Jaswinder Singh, Committee Incharge Harish Kumar, Senior reporters Amandeep Kaur and Mehak, Deputy Director (Rural Development) Vinod Gagat, Deputy CEO Zila Parishad Amandeep Kaur, DDPO Mohinderjit Singh, all BDPOs, SDO Panchayati Raj, and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.
