Vigilance nabs food safety officer, driver for taking bribe; DHO booked

State Vigilance Bureau today nabbed Food Safety officer (FSO) and Driver of civil surgeon office, Barnala district red handed while accepting bribe of Rs. 20,000/-. In this bribery case District Health officer (DHO) Raj Kumar of this office has also been booked by the VB.

Disclosing this here an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said “Vigilance nabs food safety officer, driver for taking bribe; DHO booked,FSO Abhinav Khosla and Driver Jagpal Singh have been arrested on the complaint of Rishabh Jain of Barnala district.” The complainant has approached the VB and informed that he is running a confectionery shop at village Sanghera and the accused DHO, FSO and his driver were threatening him and demanding Rs. 50,000 more for not submitting samples of confectionary items pertaining to his shop in the laboratory. He further said that he had already paid Rs. 50,000 to them three months back.

After verifying his information, the Vigilance team laid a trap and the accused FSO and driver were arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 20,000/- from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The VB has also registered case DHO in this case.

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Patiala and further investigation was under progress.
