Vigilant jail administration foils attempt to send 5 mobiles on pretext of social service activity

In a major breakthrough, the Ferozepur Jail Administration on Monday unearthed a plot of sending five mobiles to an ‘A’ category gangsters and other items on the pretext of essential material for the medical staff inside the jail amid Coronavirus.

Giving afresh directions to jail administrations in the state, the Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa asked the Jail Warders that they should be extra cautious and vigilant during COVID-19 pandemic so that none of the bad element could succeed in his nefarious designs.

Divulging details about the Ferozepur jail incident, the Minister said that two persons identified as Sonu Puri and Deepak today came to the Jail along with an ASI Rakesh Kumar. They informed the Jail Superintendent that they had come to provide 10 PPE kits, 1500 masks and 1000 bottles of sanitisers for the medical staff in Jail. They also told the Jail Superintendent that they were intended to give protein powder, dumbbells for exercise and carrom Board to their one of a friend, who was lodged in the jail.

Randhawa further pointed out that the Jail Superintendent felt the matter was suspicious when he came to know about their friend Deepak, who was a category ‘A’ gangster and lodged in the high security zone of the Jail. The Jail Superintendent asked the Deputy Superintendent Iqbal Singh Brar to meticulously check the carrom board and on checking five mobile phones, two chargers, three earphones and two data cables had been recovered, which they were got to reached to their accomplice.

Meanwhile, it also came to fore that they had no social services organisation. The Jail Superintendent has written to Police Station City Ferozepur for action against the said ASI and the others.
