Viral Audio Clip Controversy: SSP goes on leave ahead of High Court hearing

As per reports, SSP Patiala Varun Sharma, IPS has proceeded on leave before the beginning of hearing on December 10,2025 in Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case related to Sharma purportedly directing his subordinates to obstruct opposition candidates from filing their nomination papers for the zila parishad and block samiti elections through a conference call in a vital audio clip controversy.
As per available information, SSP Patiala Varun Sharma went on a week’s leave on Tuesday evening and Sangrur SSP Sartaj Chahal has been asked to look after Patiala in his absence. Now Chahal will oversee Patiala district upcoming zila parishad, block samiti’s polls along with Sangrur district.
As per sources, yesterday a discussion was held between police officials, law experts and others to how to deal with this situation ahead of the High Court hearing which had on Monday asked the state election commission to expedite the inquiry into the audio clip released by Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal last week. After this SSP Patiala proceeded on week’s leave.”
Now, it will be up to the state election commission to issue directions on whether another officer should be officially deputed in poll bound state to manage another district or the charge is given to a SP level officer posted in the district.
