Visitors to GNDU to park their vehicles in the parking lots

The process of making the environment of Guru Nanak Dev University more clean and pollution-free, today direction were issued to park all the vehicles at the entry of the University in the parking lots near both the gates. This step was welcomed by University students, staff and visitors to the University.

Registrar Dr. Karanjit Singh Kahlon said that this is a dream project of the Vice Chancellor,  Dr. Jaspal Singh Sandhu to make the university pollution-free as well as to provide students a good environment along with high quality education. He said that earlier, cycles were provided for the students to go from the parking lots to their respective departments and now 12 e-rickshaws have been introduced to ferry students and visitors from the parking lots to their destinations.

He said that with this step the level of pollution in the university campus would come down alongwith reducing the noise level which will provide a good atmosphere for study. He also said that the number of cycles and e-rickshaws will be increased as and when required.

He further added that now there is complete ban on vehicles passing through the University from one side to another side. This step will ensure a secure environment for the students and will also bring awareness among the students to maintain university campus pollution free. He said that students residing in the hostels have also been barred from having four wheeled vehicles, however they will be allowed to have two wheeled vehicles in their hostels parking.

He said that university is well aware of the financial stress on students, facility of cycles is provided at nominal rates. He said the day parking for the two-wheelers and cars will be Rs. 5/- and Rs.10/- respectively. These are very nominal rates as compared to the rates being charged for parking outside the University. Similarly, the monthly pass for two-wheelers will be Rs.25/- and for four wheelers will be Rs.75/- he added.
