The Punjab chapter of Indian Medical Association is up in arms against the consistent and blatant violation of various Supreme Court Judgments by the police while dealing with complaints against the doctors.
The Punjab IMA president, Dr.Paramjit Maan accompanied by senior IMA including Dr.SPS Sooch,Dr.Rajinder Sharma, Dr.Manoj Sobti, Dr Navjot Dahyia & Dr.Kulwinder Maan said that though the Supreme Court had pronounced several judgments stating that the police could not arrest doctors until the Board of Medical experts found them guilty, but in Punjab the police had been violating the apex court’s verdict with impunity.
The Punjab IMA has threatened to go on strike from Monday if the apathetic attitude of police against the medical fraternity continued. The doctors would shut medical services including emergency if their genuine grievance would go unheard, said the IMA leaders.
President Dr Maan also said that, whenever some mishap happens, police under the pressure of politicians, takes no time to book & arrest the doctors ignoring the Supreme Court’s guidelines shown by the IMA leadership. He said, State IMA is now planning to go to the High Court to file contempt case against this biased attitude of police.
