With woman as VC, Punjabi University takes a big leap for women empowerment

Former Punjabi University Vice Chancellor, Prof BS Ghuaman had planted a tree of women empowerment in the university campus, while he was in chair. The Punjab government has added another flower in the bouquet, by appointing Ravneet Kaur ,IAS as the vice chancellor (additional charge) of the Punjabi University, Patiala.

Some of the major offices of Punjabi University, Patiala are presently held by women Professors which is historic and path- breaking and which speaks volumes of the pro-active role played by women in the administration, in one of the prestigious university of the North India.

Women certainly play a positive role in overall growth of the University, as this is evident from the key posts held by women faculty members of the university. Women professors are also a part of an important body of the university-Senate. Out of six deans three women deans are senate members ,along with other members.

The position of Dean Academic Affairs, which is the second highest position in the University, is being held by Dr Amrit pal Kaur. The Dean Faculty of Business Studies is Dr. Ritu Lehal and the head of School of Management Studies is Dr Navjot Kaur, All these positions which draw a line of hierarchy of teaching positions in university are first time occupied by three women professors.

The position of Dean, Colleges, is held by Dr Sukhwinder Kaur (officiating), which is another major milestone for woman.Dr Jagroop Kaur holds the office of dean colleges and she will rejoin the office, shortly after leave.

Currently, the Deans of various faculties are women, which speak the far farsightedness of former vice chancellor of the university, Prof BS Ghuman. Dr. Amritpal Kaur is (Dean Academics), Dean, Faculty of Engineering & Technology, Dr. Anita Gill is Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Gurpreet Pannu, Dean, Faculty of Law,Dr. Jyotsna, Dean, Faculty of Computing Sciences, Dr Ritu Lehal is Dean faculty of Business Studies, Dr. Paramjeet Kaur Gill, Additional Dean, Student Welfare.

Apart from deans, some of the other key departments are headed by women professors. Dr. Ranjit Kaur, Dean is Directorate of International Students, Dr. Ajita, is Additional Provost (Girls), Dr. Amritpal Kaur is Director, Bhai Randhir Singh Online Gurmat Sangeet Library, Dr. Manruchi Kaur is Director, UGC-HRDC, Dr. Gurjeet Kaur is Incharge, Library,Dr. Mamta Sharma, Nodal Officer, Drug De-Addiction — Awareness & Prevention Cell and Student Grievance Redressal Cell Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Dr. Monica Chawla, Incharge, Right to Information Cell, Dr. Ragina Maini,Senior Medical Officer, Dispensary, Dr. Gurdeep Kaur Randhawa Director, Sports, Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, Professor, Deptt. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Drug Research is Center for Product Development through Novel Technology Interventions  and Dr. Monica Chawla, Incharege RTI Cell.

Apart from the administrative posts, many of the departments are being headed very effectively by women currently includes Dr. Amita Kaushal, Head Law department, Dr. Happy Jeji is the head Journalism department and Director Public Relations, Dr indra Bali is heading dance department, Dr Parmeet kaur is incharge of Gurmat Gyan online study centre, Dr Jaspal kaur is the head of theatre and television department, Dr. Ambalicka Sood Jacob is looking after the fine arts department, Dr Sukhwinder kaur Bath is HoD hindi department, Dr. Navjot Kaur is heading School of Management Studies, Dr Rajinder kaur, head Human genetics, Dr Mannruchi is head of Botany , Prof Renu is head of Public Administration and a long list of women holding key positions in the university.
