This high-end machine is the most advanced version of the Lithotripsy available currently in India even better than PGIMER Chandigarh and AIIMS New Delhi, this was stated by Dr Satish Gupta, Additional Medical Superintendent (AMS) of AIIMS Bathinda. This has been imported from the Germany at a cost of Rs 3 Crores and will be immensely helpful for the people suffering from kidney stones in this region.

Head of Urology and Kidney Transplant Services, Dr Kawaljit Singh Kaura, thanked  director AIIMS Bathinda for his visionary leadership due to which this facility could be installed. He explained about the functioning and benefits of the machine. He said that this machine can break kidney stones up to 15mm size by using electromagnetic shock waves that are targeted to the stone using this machine. It breaks the stones into small pieces that are later passed out of the body in the urine. This will be performed as an out patient procedure and the patients will not need to be admitted in the hospital with no need of Anesthesia. The procedure consists of one session of about 45 minutes and maximum of three sessions can be given 15 days apart. This machine has the advantage of breaking kidney stones which are not even visible on Xray as it has the inbuilt Ultrasound facility. There is no risk of damage to the kidney or surrounding organs and this technology is absolutely safe. Complex renal stones that frequently needed surgery can now be successfully treated with this technique. Usually stones as big as 15 mm in size can be successfully treated with this technique. Even the kidney stones in children can be managed by this technique.

The event was attended by the all faculty members from different departments and hospital staff along with other dignitaries and ended with vote of thanks.
