Women Studies centre organized lecture on ‘Investment Avenues for Working Women’

Women Studies Centre, Punjabi University, Patiala, in collaboration with Department of Distance Education organized a lecture on “Investment Avenues for Working Women”. Prof. Ritu Lehal, Director, Women Studies Centre, delivered the welcome address and introduced the topic of the lecture. She emphasized on the need to inculcate financial wisdom among women. Prof. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Head, Department of Distance Education, also reiterated the urgency of providing financial literacy to women.

The resource person,  G. C. Sharma, Head of  Financial Education, National Stock Exchange, New Delhi explained how the financial challenges of the 21st century require smart planning on the part of the investors. He emphasized on building a diversified investment portfolio in form of stocks, various types of funds, gold, commodity market, crypto currencies and real estate.

He busted the myth that investing in the stock market is akin to gambling by explaining how we can go about investing in the market systematically and in an educated manner. He also explained the importance of putting money in funds which offer compounding growth besides suggesting systematic investment in gold and other commodity markets. He emphasized on the need to educate women, especially the working women, regarding financial matters. The lecture received much applause and appreciation from the audience.  Dr. Harpreet Kaur offered the formal vote of thanks.
