Work on Medical College at Malerkotla to start soon – Razia Sultana

Transport, Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Razia Sultana today said that in order to further impart quality health facilities to residents of Sangrur district, the work on proposed medical college at Malerkotla would commence soon.

Interacting with media persons here on completion of four years of Punjab government, the Minister said that on the request of the people of Malerkotla town the renovation of local bus stand would also be done on priority basis. She said that the state government has dedicated the last four years of its tenure for the overall welfare of all sections of Punjab.  Razia Sultana said that under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Punjab has made unprecedented development in every arena due to which every Punjabi is feeling proud.

The Minister said that several path breaking initiatives have been taken along with key reforms in the transport sector in the last four years. She said that around 3,000 mini bus permits have been issued to provide self-employment opportunities to the unemployed youth.  Sultana said that in order to bring more transparency in the transport department, (Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) has been introduced in government buses.

The Minister said that apart from this Punjab has became the first in country to issue Smart Card in the form of driving license and RC of vehicles. She said that for the safety of women and children traveling in buses and other private vehicles in the state, a pilot project would be launched soon. Likewise,  Sultana said that every household would be provided safe drinking water by 2022 thereby covering 100 percent rural households under Har Ghar Paani Mission.

The Minister said that Punjab had emerged as the first state to provide clean drinking water and toilet facilities in all rural schools and Anganwadis. She said that a hi-tech lab had been set up at Amritsar for water quality testing and multi-district labs at Sangrur, Moga and Hoshiarpur were in pipeline.  Sultana said that the work of laying sewerage and construction of roads in Malerkotla city was in full swing. Replying to a query, she said that the ongoing work of overbridge on Ludhiana-Khanna road would be completed by all means within the current year.

Prominent amongst those present in the occasion included MLAs Dalbir Singh Goldy and Surjit Singh Dhiman, HoD, Water Supply and Sanitation Department Amit Talwar, Deputy Commissioner Ramvir and others.
