World Blood Donor Day-Blood donors felicitated at Ivy Hospital

Around dozen regular blood donors were felicitated to mark World Blood Donor Day at Ivy Hospital, Mohali on Friday.
During occasion around 100 units of blood were also collected during a blood donation camp for staff at hospital. Doctors, para-medial and admin staff of hospital donated blood during camp.
Mamit Sharma , Kranti Sharma, Suresh Dadhwal and Gurmeet Kaur the regular blood donors from long time were among those donors who were felicitated by Gurtej Singh and Dr Kanwaldeep Kaur, chairman and medical director of Ivy Group of Hospital respectively.
Dr Kanwaldeep said that an adequate supply can only be assured through regular donations by voluntary, unpaid blood donors.
Transfusion of blood and blood components helps save millions of lives every year, said Dr Nidhi Vashist , blood transfusion officer adding it can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions.
The event serves to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood and also to raise awareness of the need for regular blood donations to ensure that all individuals and communities have access to affordable and timely supplies of safe and quality-assured blood and blood products, as an integral part of universal health coverage and a key component of effective health systems.
