World University celebrated World Food Day splendidly

Department of Food Processing Technology of Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University celebrated “World Food Day” by organizing a one-day seminar on the theme of “Food Safety and Security- Public Health Concerns”. On this occasion, Dr. Ram Saroop Singh, Professor, Department of Biotechnology, Punjabi University, Patiala and Dr. Kamaljit Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Food Science and Technology, Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana were the invited guests. Dr. Ram Saroop Singh shared with the students benefits of genetically modified foods. Dr. Kamaljit Kaur talked about changing the dietary intake of cereals based on multigrain and gluten free foods, in addition to the variety of different foods. A large number of students from various departments participated in various events like rangoli, poster making and slogan writing. The food stalls setups by the students of the department were the center of attraction of the event amongst University staff and students. On this occasion members of the press club of Fathegarh Sahib were guests of honour. They highly appreciated the events and the student presentations on world food day.
Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. Prit Pal Singh distributed the prizes to the winner students and congratulated the department for successful organization of the event, while presiding over the ceremony. He shared his ideas about importance of the world food day. Dr. Navneet Kaur Dhindsa, and Rupinder Kaur welcomed the guests speakers and other dignitaries. Dr. Rupinder Pal Singh, Incharge, Department of Food Processing Technology informed the students about the history of World Food Day. Dr. Navdeep Kaur, Head, Department of Food Processing Technology presented vote of thanks. The staff members and the students from other departments were also present on this occasion.
